TRANSPORT DIMENSIONS
30,81 x 4,10 x 4,50 metres

TRANSPORT WEIGHT
123.56 tons.

OBJECTIVE
G.I. & E. S.p.A. has the necessity to transport skid from the Porto Recanati office to the plant in Sarroch di Cagliari.
ANALYSIS In this phase it is highlighted that the peculiarity of the job is to organise the crossing coast of the Tirreno to Cagliari in addition to all the various issues of a convoy that has very big dimensions.
The harbours that are equipped for the docking of a ship suitable for the transport of a convoy with these characteristics are only three. As a consequence of this, we select the harbour that is attainable through roads.
The choice has therefore been Livorno.
Furthermore it is necessary to determine with the Captain of the ship loading mode since the height of the tailgate laid on the dock could cause a prominence that could make the convoy overturn.

STRATEGY Due to the dimensions of the convoy the route was monitored and then determined.
During the inspection phase, that included the evaluation and the feasibility analysis of the transport, the measurement of every single interchange, bridge, rail crossing and cable was done.
Subsequently we sent the graphic schematics that represented all the measures/barycentre/height of the convoy to the Captain of the ship for the autorisation to go on board evaluating the different possibilities and critical factors.
Once the autorisation was obtained we arranged the transport considering the necessity to find ourselves in Livorno the exact date and time that the Captain established.
During loading, in spite of all reassurances, it was not possible to board the ship because the DENTE created by the open tailgate and the dock was too high.
The real time evaluation has lead to the decision to load the cargo with a ship with different characteristics and with low tide so to gain a few centimetres and reduce the dimensions of the prominence.
If even this solution resulted in not being appropriate, we would have been forced to request new permits to divert the convoy from Livorno to another harbour with ships that had different characteristics.
Requested, then obtained, the Captain's authorisation (of a second ship) we have implemented the emergency plan organising ourselves to load at the exact time, with low tide.
With high precision the convoy was delivered with success, even though a further issue arose, represented by the fact that the ship had to call at the Valencia harbour before going to Cagliari.
The type of cargo associated with the very bad sea conditions have resulted in a further stop of 5 days in Valencia, waiting for the sea conditions to improve.
The transport had a total duration of 19 days, even though everything was carried out successfully without causing any damage, maintaining the security of every employee and passenger with complete satisfaction of the client.

INSTRUMENTS The dimensions and the weight of the transport have determined the execution of the job through a special loader of 5 + 3 axles with a low floor.
